Lot Details
Tina Modotti (Italian, 1896-1942) Logs, circa 1926 Gelatin silver contact print 3-1/2 x 2-3/8 inches (8.9 x 6.0 cm) (image) 3-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches (sheet) Signed in ink, lower image recto. Photographer's stamp, verso. Together with a 6-7/8 x 9-1/8 inches gelatin silver print of a reception with Modotti's stamp, verso. It has been speculated that this is a photograph of a reception at the home of Thomas Braniff for American World War One Ace, Ralph A. O'Neill. O'Neill was made a General in the Mexican Air Force which would date this photograph to Mexico City between 1924-1925. It has been further speculated that Tina Modotti is the figure on the right in the hat and that Edward Weston is standing behind and to the left of O'Neill. Also included in this lot is A Dream of Eagles, an autobiography of Ralph A. O'Neill, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1973. HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
In overall excellent condition. Two small areas of black paper affixed to the upper corners of the verso from a previous mounting.
